You have I have more in common than we might care to admit Bluto. I am right with you on your having stood up to the racist (remarks) in your classroom. I had a similar incident at work.

A black man was hired to teach our cultural diversity course that was mandated by our city manager. He began by stating that "All whites to some degree are racist. Some just manage to cover it up a little better than others." And then he went on for over an hour about how poorly whites treat other races.

When he was about to take our first break he asked if there were any questions or comments. I raised my hand and he acknowleged me. "Sir, isn't what you are doing through your mannerisms and statements inflaming the situation? Aren't you thus essentially a racist yourself?"

This went over like a fart in a submarine or the space shuttle. He immediately asked for my name. When I asked why he wanted or needed it he stated "I am going to be talking to the city manager about your statement." My reply caused the courses to come to an abrupt end. "Sir, be sure you also talk to the city attorney because we are being forced to attend this course and I have felt uncomfortable since we walked in. You caused that discomfort and I know I speak for others. You created a nice hostile learning environment or us all."

He walked (well actually stormed) out and slammed the door behind him. Within an hour I was in the Chief's office explaining myself. The Chief basically told me that I needed to hold my tongue in the future but that the city would not be contracting with him any longer to teach this sensitive subject. Nothing more was ever said and that guy hasn't been around our city either.

Call it whatever they want when ANY race looks down at the actions of ANY other race it is discriminatory and racist. It is one thing to look back at our past with reverence in an attempt to honor the history and to learn from it. It is an entirely different situation for us to live in the past. And that is exactly what happens each and every time our nation is reminded of the days of slavery.

I am not a racist by any measure. But I sure know a lot of them. Some are white. Some are not. And it is really just that simple.

Good for you Bluto standing up to someone who was so clearly and obviously wrong. Sadly I would be willing to bet that you were the only one who had a set and stood up for the rights of everyone in that classroom.
