There is a community of people who spend their spare time wasting the time of Nigerian scammers. That's about all an ordinary person can do with them. Of course, safety precautions are necessary such as creating a fake identity.

The "I need to get my money out of the country" scam targets greedy people. There's also the lottery scam which tells people that they are legally entitled to some winnings. It's the same scam in a different package.
Note that these same people engage in fraud that doesn't involve spam. For example, they buy big items on eBay and persuade the seller to send cash to Nigeria via Western Union in order to facilitate delivery.
I think the most important thing is education. Most people want to do the right thing and to know when they're dealing with the wrong person. The minority of people who don't care where the money comes from, as long as it comes, deserve what they get.

Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.
