Before I jumped into this, a friend told me that she never buys anything that contains any kind of sales pitch or "fancy stuff." She wants a couple of lines telling her exactly what she's getting, and anything else turns her off.
I've often wondered how many other people feel that way.
Another question I forgot to ask:
I've spent hours looking at what various Power Sellers are doing, and I find that the vast majority (at least of the ones I've seen) are running 7-day auctions.
As a buyer, I hate long auctions. I don't even bother (but then I hate bidding anyway; I only use Buy It Now). You mentioned shorter listing times -- is that what you recommend??
And:
What about starting the bidding at rock-bottom? For me personally, that has never "gotten the bidding started" or created "a bidding war." With two exceptions, nothing I have listed has ever gone above the opening price. So if I start at rock bottom, I'll never make a dime.
An acquaintance who is a Power Seller told me she starts all her auctions at what she paid for the item (apparently not even including fees, which I always include). Still, she said everyone always tells her she needs to start at $1 to "get the bidding going," which she says she cannot afford to do (I don't blame her).
What's your opinion?
I'm not trying to be a freeloader here. I realize there are tons of Ebay courses available (many of which I have read), but you know what they're like -- every single one has different ideas. I'm interested in hearing your personal opinion, and I'm guessing there are lots of other WannabeEbayers listening.
