>> This site really is about friend helping friends and newcomers in starting and growing their own business, and avoiding the scams that are waiting for them with promises of quick, easy money. <<

I see...

>> No business is perfect for everyone, but some MLM recruiting methods teach that everyone is a prospect. <<

Oh yes. Mk is definitely in the "recruit anyone" category. One of the more popular recruiting tactics is to take any possible negative or objection and say "then you'd be great!!!".

Ex. I can't sell. Great! We don't want sales people. We want people who want to teach skin care.
Ex. I really don't have any time to do this business. Great! Busy people do the best in this business.
Ex. I don't really know anyone! Great! We love people who don't know anyone because you can now meet some people.

They all defy logic. Particularly when someone shows little to no business sense, little to no sales ability, little to no desire to do something like this....those end up being the prime recruits!

>> You never explained on the MK "front-loading" whether it was corporate policy or option, but pushed by the upline. <<

It is an option, but VERY VERY heavily pushed by the upline, naturally. And corporate helps in the pushing by offering incentives (pay) to recruiters who can get the victim to frontload.

>>The FIB forum is primarily composed of people who are strongly or mildly anti-MLM.<<

Interesting, then, that I'm getting such pushback about MK. I respect differing opinions, but would like to see them based in fact and not assumption. The personal insults by Bob are just immature.

>>I'm on the fence only because I saw my 3 failures being partly my fault.<<

Well certainly we all bear some responsibility for our success or failure in a MLM or a real business. I was lead astray in a few key areas, and there really wasn't anywhere to find out "the other side" of MK. But it's not me that I'm worried about. It is those who are exploited by the system. Sure, it's easy to say that we're all adults and we can do our research and ultimately say no. It's another thing to have a business model that relies on pleas to help someone and emotional manipulation at its best. But there's too much on that topic to go into here.

>>I just can't dismiss MLM or Network Marketing entirely, when I know it has been an excellent source of income for others. <<

Except that this income comes at the expense of other individuals who were sucked into a system that is only designed for a very limited few to prosper...

>> Folks here are definitely opposed to the "big room" opportunity and recruiting meetings, with all the hype and hollow promises. <<

Oh, MK has those revivals on a mighty regular basis.

>> Take a half hour (or less) to read through Scams 101 to see the detailed info that Lesley has written about learning to spot the Red Flags - ...<<

Thanks!

>> Friends in Business is not the only anti-scam site on the internet. What position do the other major sites take on MK? <<

It seems most people assume the company is legit because it has been around so long. Those that come to the website or join the Yahoo group are starting to see how the whole "scam" part of it works, and how common it is. We are becoming accepted little be little, but believe me when I say that there has been a lot of push back. There is a secret code in MK, one of shame, really. When you fail, you don't admit it or tell anyone about it. If you do, you're referred to as lazy or ignorant...someone who just didn't want to work. They never accept that there are thousands (millions?) who do it all by the book but still can't turn a profit because of the MLM system. MK reps are really bothered by the information that we're sharing. Why? Because it's true, they know it, and it may soon start cutting into their recruiting efforts.

>> Consider this. This on-going discussion will give your link more attention than a flat OK would ever have drawn. None of the moderators have edited your posts or removed your link. <<

Oh, I can take the heat. Thanks for your thoughtful posts. Seems that everyone isn't quite so reasonable, and reverts to personal insults to try to make points. I am happy to discuss and debate, as long as we're doing so based upon facts.

A website devoted to exposing the Mary Kay scam.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so.  We are not responsible or liable for any claim arising from the content of any such discussions or postings or for any error, defamation, libel, slander, omission, falsehood, obscenity, pornography, profanity, danger, or inaccuracy contained in any information contained within such locations on the Site.
You are prohibited from posting or transmitting any unlawful, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic, or profane materials or any material that could constitute or encourage conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.  You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual.  We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials.
By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example. You grant Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications complete, perpetual, but non-exclusive rights to use, archive, reproduce, adapt, modify, distribute, sub-license, repurpose, rework, compile, or offer for sale or resale the messages, postings or content appearing on this site in whole or in part, throughout the world and universe, on a royalty-free basis without remuneration.  If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board.
In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
