In Response To: Re: Two eBay (Life!) Tips.... (Jim Kaiser)

You said...

"Even with your husband's discount you probably can't beat the rate of the USPS flat rate boxes. "

I used to ship a lot of stuff via USPS a year ago. I used mainly Media Mail, First Class, and Priority Mail.

I can tell you that they did not have a flat rate box back then, only a flat rate cardboard envelope. Did they now include a flat rate box? How much is it?

Then you said...

"My mailman picks up the packages every day, no need to go to the Post Office. "

USPS rules indicate that all packages weighing over 1lb must be handed over the counter to a postal clerk. How do you get around this rule. they would not bend the rule for me even though I shipped almost 100 packages per week.

I also disagree with you sort of. I know that you said sending out all those emails is overkill on your business and I agree with that. However, I believe that too many emails, no matter how well-intentioned, is not good. I get aggravated when a merchant emails me too many times. In the case of eBay buying, I just want confirmation that the order was shipped with tracking # if applicable. I don't need to know anything else from the seller, really, unless the item is back ordered and will not ship within the time frame stated in the auction (and if this est ship time frame is not stated in the auction, I don't bid).

Paypal already sends the payment confirmation so there is no need for it.

Ebay tells me I won the auction so there is no need for the seller to confirm this either.

There are a lot of people that do not understand what spam is. They actually think that sending too many emails (their definition) is spam, even if they know you and it is legit email. So I think that overkill on emails is not good for you and your business for TIME reasons, but it is also not good for customer service issues as well.

Maw said that she emails to tell them that the package was shipped but the tracking # would not be available til the next day. So why bother. For me, it isn't shipped unless you have a tracking # for me proving it. For all I know you are just saying that. Prove it with the tracking # and don't email me unless you have one. No need for it. It does me no good. I don't need to know every single step in the seller's order process. I just need to know that which is important and verifiable.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
