A. Ezines
METHOD #1: place paid ads in relevant opt-in ezines
Advantage: Quick results (but track them to know which produce results)
Disadvantage: Costs Money, can give a burst of traffic when you ad runs - but it's usually a short term burst.
METHOD #2: write articles for other people's ezines.
Advantage: Reasonably quick results (but a slow burner if you simply place articles in directories and wait for them to be picked up), doesn't cost money
Disadvantage: You need to write articles that people want to publish (study your market!), can give a burst of traffic when you article runs, but it's usually a short term burst, doesn't cost money (but does cost time)
METHOD #3: joint venture (basically you pay ezine owners a percentage of sales they generate for you).
Advantage: No upfront cost, reasonably quick results
Disadvantage: You need your own product, you need some method to track which ezine owner generated how many sales, only strongly amenable to certain types of products, can give a burst of traffic when you JV runs - but it's usually a short term burst, tough for a new marketer to get JV partners.
METHOD #4: pay per click search engine listings.
Advantage: Quick results
Disadvantage: Costs money
I recommend FindWhat, Overture and Kanoodle as the best of the bunch.
METHOD #5: search engine optimization (get a good position in free listings in Google and elsewhere)
Advantage: Free, and keeps on going
Disadvantage: Takes a long time.
Hint: Three most important things are (i) Your page title, (ii) The other content of your page, and (iii) Having lots of relevant sites link to you. For the last one, you need to come up with some reason/strategy to build up lots of links to your site and for other webmasters to link.
METHOD #6: Get your name in the news (not necessarily national news, could be local press or specialist press dealing with your topic). press releases, publicity, that sort of thing.
METHOD #7: Local marketing (to your local area). This could overlap with #6.
I don't have any experience of doing this one myself, and obviously it works better for some products/services than others.
For example, if you have a niche product that only say 100,000 people in the world have a use for, and you have 1,000,000 people in your local area, there's only going to be a maximum of about 167 potential customers in your local area. Whether in this example, the 167 is worth pursuing directly, obviously depends on your profit margin per customer (for example, if you were only making $10 per customer, and you're in such a niche market, local advertising is probably never going to cut it).

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so. You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual. We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
