Hard facts

In Response To: thanks for the advice everybody....... (BizNewbie)

BizNewbie,
It's your money. However, if you are determined to begin a website dealing with "travel agent" you should be aware of a few things. Do a google search for "travel agent" (include the quotes) There are around 3,390,000 competiting websites just for the phrase "travel agent'.

Here's some of the tools I use to determine if a market is worth getting into.

1.) Nichebot http://www.nichebot.com/ . The phrase "travel agent" results in 17,500,000 pages using the term "travel agent". The competition is 3,860,000 others. The ratio is 4,736...which means that you will roughly be found once every 4,736 searches. (barring many other factors)

2.) This tool combines overture and wordtracker results. http://www.123promotion.co.uk/ppc/index.php The results for 'travel agent" shows that there is roughly 288,761 searches monthly for travel agent. If you click on the monthly figure, you are taken to a keywword difficulty analyzer...in this case, your keyword difficulty rating (how hard it would be to optimize a website for the term "travel agent") is 144,381. That's the odds against you.

BUT...using the same tool, (http://www.123promotion.co.uk/ppc/index.php) scroll down a bit. Hmmmm, there's one for "travel agent training" that gets 1638 searches a month, and the KDR (keyword difficulty rating) is 33. That's better.

Along the same lines, there's one for "becoming a travel agent" that gets 1538 searches a month, and the KDR is 31.

Here's another..."travel agent career" that gets 772 searches a month, and the KDR is 11. Much better. Less competition.

What does all this mean? Well, using those three phrases, "travel agent training", "becoming a travel agent" and "travel agent career" would concievably give you a combined search ratio of 3948 a month, or 131 searches a day.

So, using the lowest KDR phrase, "travel agent career" as your main website focus page, you can get higher rankings for a secondary search term. Then have secondary pages for "becoming a travel agent" and "travel agent training." These pages will fall under your optimized "travel agent career" website and be ranked along with it.

If your website ranks high using search engine factors, you stand a much better chance of getting customers for these secondary phrases rather than the generic "travel agent" that has loads of competition.

Are you with me? Look around at many other terms until you find one that has little competition. Oh by the way, do a google search for "travel agent school"+affiliate (typed in just like that). You'll find affiliate programs tied in with travel agent schools. I found one that pays 20% of the tuition commission.

Hmmm. I may just have to dig into this one a little deeper.

The bottom line is...you'll have a VERY difficult time trying to swim with the big fishes using a website geared for the term 'travel agent," but will have more success going for phrases that the sharks ignore. 500 here, 700 there...it all adds up.

But, you still have to create a website that will convert the customers. AND, you have to learn how to optimize your websites for the search engines. Plus, it can take a year or so before your website gets ranked well. So there's no "get-rich-quick" method here, just lots of hard work and studying.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
