I own a membership

In Response To: Prepaid Legal (Jennie)

I own a membership and have used it for the following:

-Provider lawfirm created a new will for me and my wife;
-Review of personal and my family's cell-phone contracts;
-Review of construction contracts;
-Review and resolution of a dispute with a contractor;
-Review of various warranties on tools and appliances;
-Fought 2 unfair traffic tickets (my ticket was out of state and one was my daughter's)
-Resolved a warranty problem regarding our old mattress;
-Consulted with our lawfirm provider regarding dissolving of a business partnership;
That is all I can think of off the top of my head regarding personal use.
I like the fact that I can cancel anytime as it is a month to month membership.
I have never had a problem with using the membership. The respond within 24 hours and I get multiple calls to be sure that we were satisfied with the service.

Here are some friends' uses:

-Resolved a series of bogus checks problem for a rental unit in another state;
-Friend of mine says he would forever own a membership as he "....has been stopped by the police for (HIS words exactly) DWB...Driving While Black". When he immediately hands them his pre-paid legal card, they take a different tone with him. He has friends and family that own the membership tell him similar stories.
-Another friend's brother had a serious problem with his 16 yo driving and in a serious accident. The length and time of the proceedings would have cost thousands of dollars. His family saved a lot and resolved the problem that could have been devastating emotionally and financially.

I have learned that there are many ways to rate lawfirms but according to the rating system I was pointed to, Martindale Hubble, my provider lawfirm is top rated as 'AV'. I understand that all the lawfirms must have a similar rating and they must be invited into the "closed network" of pre-paid legal lawfirms for each state. They have to be top rated to be considered for working as a representative lawfirm of Pre-Paid Legal, Inc.

As already has been stated, most people don't need a membership. They will not need a membership their entire life. But I believe it is like any other membership 'insurance'. You are glad you have it when problems arise.

The friend who sold it to me markets mostly to small business owners as they seem to use the membership and other consultant benefits (GoSmallBiz.com) that come with the business membership that are not available to family memberships. He likes what he does and does well.

Regarding the issues of the lawsuit mentioned...
I seem to remember my friend sent me an email with a link to an article that the judge recently threw out the lawsuits. I do not know the specifics at this time. I couldn't find the email.

One word of caution...
Do not let the representative sell it to you like you have a lawyer in your back pocket and that is covers everything. The membership does have it's restrictions and you need be fully informed before you consider a purchase.
Good luck!

> Well, I'm guessing you guys have reviewed this before, but would you mind

> they work? Thanks.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
        PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
        If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
        NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
        Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

        By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
        And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
