A former pastor of mine once said that "You must stand for something -- or you will fall for anything." On this board, you know where MaaMaw stands, and she isn't about to fall anytime soon. I recommend that you go over to Network54 and start your own forum.
MaaMaw's mission statement basically says that she's going to protect people from themselves. Without passing judgment on your biz opp, any ad for an opp that plays to the emotions sets off warning bells in my head. Most people seeking an "opp" are desperate, making them easy targets for an emotional appeal. I know it, you know it, and your "opp" knows it -- and you also know that not everyone will be successful. And when you add several thousand dollars worth of debt to "desperation", it isn't pretty. These opps precisely target these individuals -- and these are the people that need the most protection. And from what I've seen of most of them, they mostly consisit of finding other needy people to help. So you're selling a concept -- and not anything tangible. Hey, it's great that you want to help people, but the wallet is one burden that's easy to carry. So carry on, MaaMaw.
"In order to ensure that only serious people sign up for our opportunity, you'll have to pay $5,000 up front to show your sincerity." Gag. Choke. If you have enough confidence in me, and if I have enough confidence in your system, why not pay the up-front costs yourself (hey, you're successful, right? You can afford it) in exchange for a small percentage of the lifetime profits? Of course, how do you know that I'm serious if I don't put up a wad of cash at the start? Money talks, but so do other things. Figure it out for yourself.
In a period of "desperation", I was once ready to fork over $5,000 for one of those opps, but thankfully my wife, who has completely different interests, basically told me that I was nuts (and, as the Book of Proverbs says, there is much wisdom in many counselors. Sure, don't listen to the naysayers, but you'd better listen to those you know, love, and trust). I found this board shortly thereafter and hope that my posts make people to think before they pull out their credit card, whether the "opp" cost $5.00 or $5,000.
Network54 allows anyone to start their own forum. Why not go there and start one? You can then be as open-minded and understanding as you want.
Free speech? Who pays the hosting fees for this board? Can you put your ad in the local paper without paying? Nope, it's not free...and besides, considering all of the sweat equity, time, and money that she has poured into this website over the years, she is more than allowed to exercise editorial control over it and decide what gets publicity and what does not. The only person on this site that has free speech is MaaMaw. The rest of us will always be subject to the editor's eraser.
You have a choice here: the FIB-way or the highway.
Thanks for taking the time to read my highly opinionated post. And thanks for taking the time to stop whining about not being able to post about anything and everything, even if what you want to post about is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent...
Grrrrrrr,
Tom

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so. You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
