There are many things that aren't a scam, but would be a bad choice if you wanted to make money. For example, imagine setting up a lemonade stand in your hometown if everyone else also decided to set up a lemonade stand outside their house.
In selecting a home business, you really can't go off the "this guy says it works." Writing and selling an ebook is a GREAT idea (for example) -- but only if you are already "known" in some area (an expert in something or the owner of a large site. If nobody's ever heard of you, the odds of making a fortune with an ebook are VERY slim.
It's also a bad idea to hop into a business you know nothing about or that involves something you hate doing (like selling face-to-face or on the phone.)
The best way to start making money is to start with a hobby or an interest of yours. For instance, I worked with computers so I could set up a small computer consulting business. On the other hand, I don't know anything about gourmet cookery, so it would be a very bad idea for me to get into the business of growing herbs for local caterers and high-end restaurants.
PPC and ad entry assumes that everyone gets online to Buy Stuff. It's competitive and can cost a lot of money to get into.
You'd do far better getting involved in something of your own.
