Secrets At Any Price

In Response To: HELP ! GURU OVERLOAD! (DC)

One group that I am a member of has only one rule: we never share certain aspects of our business activities. Why? Because doing so would easily dilute our success.

If I have a "secret" that is making me filthy rich, I'm not going to sell it for $19.95. For that matter, I'm not going to sell it for $19,995. And I have secrets that, even though they haven't made me "rich" just yet (but they will, and it will be MY definition of "rich", not yours), still aren't for sale at any price.

BOTTOM LINE: Everybody desperately wants that secret that will make them rich. Savvy marketers know this and will write copy that will play on your emotions. While I wouldn't use Bluto's exact wording, what he said is correct: using the word "secret" is an emotional trigger that gets you to take action.

Of course, all I have to include in a report to keep the FTC off my back is share one little thing in a product that I don't share elsewhere and I've kept my promise to share a "secret". Big deal! Don't fall for it.

I strongly recommend that anybody just starting out with an Internet business get a good book on copywriting and study it. Even if you don't write your own copy, just knowing the tricks of the trade can save you a lot of cash and a lot of disappointment. I just learned some new tricks this past weekend at Yanik Silver's Underground UK conference from one of the best, Ted Nicholas. All I'll say is that you probably don't want to ever read a single salesletter that I've written!

And no, I won't give you my definition of "rich", either. First, I don't talk about money to anybody buy my wife, my accountant, and the IRS (two out of three isn't bad!), and that definition is one of my "secrets"!

Best regards,
Tom

P.S. -- No promises, but I'll try to locate a good free (or low cost) copywriting text for those just starting out. If I find one, I'll post back and let everybody know. The one I have is quite expensive (Dan Kennedy) and while it is a good one, it's probably out of most people's price range.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
