Ben, you are on a prayer chain...you are never forgotten. Times like this test us severely but you're showing your sterling backbone. Hang in there and count your blessings:
A wonderful wife who is most likely very, very appreciative of your loving care and support all the way around.
A beautiful new baby boy who is thriving.
A daughter who is getting the medical care and schooling accommodations she needs to live as well as possible.
A family who is learning valuable lessons from observing how a real man handles things when things get tough. You're teaching them by example. Bravo!
If you haven't talked to your commander about a hardship deferment of the Korea assignment, perhaps you should. If no satisfaction, go higher if you must. Your family needs you and your support now...at least try.
You might gather around and begin to organize a helping support system just in case you have to exit the scene. Now is the time to let folks know what is needed and when so they can volunteer to help if/when. Also find out what community programs are available that would help your family to cope.
