MaaMaw,
I'm not meaning to be rude or anything negative like that. I'm merely curious so I want to ask you...
Why do you choose to manually fight the automated spam posts on FIB when you could very easily and quite inexpensively fight it automatically, therefore freeing your mind and your time up for those tasks that will actually bring you more money than you make now?
I just can't seem to understand why a person like yourself, who has said on more than one occasion fairly recently that you really need to make more money, would want to waste your time on this time consuming (and therefore money sucking) problem.
And yes, I know you can't stop the spam that is not automated, but that's life. It happens to every forum. Some are intentional, some are not. Either way, they need to be dealt with manually. But these are a very small percentage of all the spam posted here on FIB.
I think I remember you saying a few days back that you'd use a captcha(sp?) script but the only one you know of used those squiggly, sometimes hard to read, verification letter images. I have to admit, personally I don't prefer the squiggly ones either, but really, it works and people use them with no problem all the time everywhere. The non-squiggly ones are actually not as secure as the squiggly ones. The reason they use the squiggly ones is because they are more secure. There are scripts (I am told) that can actually read the captcha images when they are not squiggly or obscured (like paypal's method - paypal used regular, non-squiggly letters with lines drawn all over the images to make it harder for scripts to read).
But at any rate, personally, I fail to see how such a really unimportant little thing like squiggly capcha letters stops you from using a script that would free your time up for better things which you need to focus on.
Is it that you don't value your time?
Is it a fear of something? Fear of what? (other than the squiggly letters)
I just don't get it (which leads me to believe that you have a fear of something).
^_^
BTW, if money's the issue, I'm sure it can't cost more than $100 to get a good capcha script. Maybe you could ask people to send a donation via payal (just a couple bucks)? If you get half the money, that's a good deal. (I admit, I kinda feel funny suggesting this because I personally cannot even afford a dollar right now as I'm not doing very well financially these days because of some medical bills I incurred a coupla months ago, I don't make much money on the net presently and I only have a part time job right now...so you didn't hear this suggestion from me ;)).

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so. You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
