I actually really don't care if a person has a PhD in one area but actually is an expert in another. To me, having a real PhD tells me that you are intelligent enough and have the discipline it takes in order to attain a PhD, in whatever area.

Given this, if someone giving me information has a PhD, but in a different area or field than the field they are actually making money in, I don't frown on that, so long as their PhD is real. Because my mentality is that if you are intelligent enough and disciplined enough to actually achieve a PhD in any area, then it is highly probable that you can success in any area/field/industry in which you want to succeed and be very good, if not the best, at it.

So the fact thatht Dr. Laura has a PhD in physiology and not in morality and responsibility means nothing. She has a PhD and she should proudly display that in here name if she pleases. And since her advice is sound and common-sensical, it really does not matter what PhD he has or if she has one at all. She isn't trying to tell me that her PhD in Physiology makes her right in her moral assessments of other people's lives. People just assume that she is trying to say that because she calls herself "Dr" but that is not her problem. She has proven that she gives good, sound, moral, common-sensical advice and that is why people call her, even if they hate what her answer is going to be to their questions.

PhD has nothing to do with it. Besides, how is one supposed to get a PhD in morality - especially from a University?

Since Dr. Laura does not give psychological advice usually, only moral guidance, it would not even be much of anything if she had a doctorate in Psychology. She already has a good grasp on psychology, which is why she is as harsh with some of her callers as she is ;).

BTW, if I am not mistaken, Dr. Laura is a licensed therapist of some sort which does actually relate to her area of expertise on her show. But does that mean she is actually someone you should listen to? Well, not necessarily. If you believe in her brand of morality, though, you'd know her guidance is invaluable (well, as much as talk show host therapist guidance can be).

What I am trying to do is verify those that are suspect of fraud or hype. If he is an Internet marketing guru but he has a PhD in some Biological Science or something like that, that means that his "Dr" in front of his name is legit and that's fine with me.

Now, on the other hand, if they claim to have PhD in something like "Metaphysics" then I would definitely want to find out what university issued that, no matter what he's selling.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so.  We are not responsible or liable for any claim arising from the content of any such discussions or postings or for any error, defamation, libel, slander, omission, falsehood, obscenity, pornography, profanity, danger, or inaccuracy contained in any information contained within such locations on the Site.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
