In Response To: But there is price manipulation going on. . . (Terry)

The elected officials have led the country into this problem and are now pointing the finger at the companies that had to jump through hoops to keep up.

Congress has been forcing the price of gas up. First they require the use of MTBE and then when the trial lawers start lining up to sue the manufacturers of MTBE for "damages," congress looks the other way. What happens?

Companies stop using MTBE.

This is a sign of politicians making laws based upon the wishes of lobbyists. They did not perform any investigation or study of the effects of using MTBE, they just passed a law requiring it.

The primary problem keeping this country from running the way it was intended is LOBBYISTS. A donation cap will not end the problem, nor will term limits. There has to be a complete removal of lobbying. No politician wants to hear that since they rely so heavily on the lobby money, which makes it next to impossible to get any law passed to restrict lobbying. If you do any research into how lobbying has affected the course of the nation you may be surprised at what bills have been introduced because of the lobbyists.

Unfortunately, the pockets of too many politicians are lined with money from the lobbyists to consider getting a law restricting lobbying passed. The only way to stop it would be to overthrow the sitting government, and that would open us up to attack from about 15-20 countries that don't want a more efficient US government (i.e. the solution would be worse than the problem).

Not a big deal, ethanol is a reliable oxegenator produced from corn and other grains. Refiners will just add it instead.

But congress steps up and puts a fifty cent per gallon tariff on imported ethanol.

Is there some logic to this?

Sure there is. ADM and other corn producers have donated millions of dollars to our elected officials. The trial lawyers donate millions to these bums to protect their ability to squeeze cash out of manufacturers using junk science.

Hmmm... more evidence of lobbyists indirectly running the show. Does this seem like a bad idea to anyone else yet?

I know some will call for term limits and donation ceilings, but the only thing that will have a lasting effect is to educate the voting public about the true effects of the laws passed by congress.

That won't work. People don't have the attention spans needed. What will work is what we have here in Arizona. We elect people with princibles to the house and the senate.

What works for Arizona may not work for everyone else. Take a look at Louisiana for example, a Cat 5 Hurricane barreling in and nobody read the extremely well thought out emergency action plan that would have cleared New Orleans. Instead they immediately started blaming the President for something that he could not legally get involved in.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
