I posted a long response above, but...

In Response To: GAS WAR -- PLEASE READ!! (MaaMaw)

I put a long explanation up above on Jim Wilson's question but didn't cover a lot of questions here.
I would consider myself an expert on the subject of gasoline and oil companies based on 23 years in the industry including 12 with my own company.
I don't know what you would consider me.:)
As far as "gas", it all starts off basically the same. All gas is "unbranded" in the beginning. What, generally, makes gas "branded" like Exxon or Amoco is putting it into a gas station that flies the their flag. And additives. Each company has their own proprietary additive package that has detergents and octabe boosters... That being said, All Gas sold in the US has to have a required amount of detergencies and other stuff regardless if it is sold in a gas station that is branded or what Pete calls "cut rate"
Much of the gas is refined in other countries and brought here in tankers and off loaded and sent to terminals for distribution through a network of pipelines to regional terminals. Most of these terminals do not have refining capability; only storage.
One problem is that there are something like 12 different requirements for gas in the US. This means that there are 12 different formulations. Additionally, winter formulation is different than summer formulation for environmental reasons.
I won't argue with Bloooooto about his results using BP/Amoco. I do know that before the merger, Amoco had a reputation of very high quality gas.
This is my opinion, though. I suspect there may be more factors than just using BP/Amoco. Some of them could be: weather conditions have an effect, where he's going and how he drives could be another.
Or BP/Amoco is just that much better.
In my above post there's a lot of additional information.
Remember, I don't like Big Oil either and may have a lot more reasons than most of you. But that doesn't change the facts.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
