Kevin,
Gary touched on a good point. Try to find local sellers, but more specifically find items that are not available by many. I talked to a fellow e-bayer who sold "homemade" crafts on e-bay. They actually contacted a "Mom n' Pop" operation who were making the item, and got a very good rate on the items. They were unique and only sold through the home biz that he contacted. Now imagine doing that with 10-20 smaller companies that are anxious to market their products. Most are too busy making them to effectively market them online, beyond setting a web-site. If you can become an exclusive or semi-exclusive distributor of many items from samll companies, and not only market them on e-bay, but through other online methods too, you stand a good chance of being successful. Of course it will take lots of leg-work, research, and patience, but it might be the jump you need on the already saturated overstock/liquidation/wholesale market.

I have purchased many E-bay courses on "selling wholesale stuff", and most what is given as advice, of it puts you in direct competition with other sellers who are willing to under-cut you and seell for almost 1-2% profit. Here is my word of advice which I stated in my last post. Find a line of similar and complementary products that you can acquire at a price that is easily marked up for good profit on each item. This usually works good for expensive items. Then, become an EXPERT (this takes research, asking questions, time) and market yourself as a TRUSTED, REPUTABLE, EXPERT in that area. Let me give you an exmaple that might help clarify. Recently I was in the market for a higher-end heart-rate monitor for some athletic training I was about to embark on. I checked e-bay and sent sellers, asing for more information. Well let me tell you, right away, I could see who was the EXPERT and who were jst "sellers". The expert, answered my questions in DETAIL, AND offered further resources to check out before I made a decision. Furthermore, He virtually guaranteed safe delivery of the $500 item. He made me feel at ease, safe and completely comfortable with what I was/am about to purchase. His price was fair, but not the lowest. He will get my sale. He sells nothing but that particular series, realted accessories, guarantees all his products personally, and personally guarantees safe delivery using on trusted methods. Now who do you think I will buy from? There about another 20 sellers selling the IDENTICAL product about $40 cheaper. None that I could see guarantee the safe delivery or relaiblity of the products. None could really answer the questions I wanted. Guess who I will probably go to for all my acessory needs after the initial sale?

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
