I've been blind alright. I was so tempted by the reasonable click rates for this niche on google that I didn't consider that maybe this isn't the market that is (or is able) to whip out the credit cards. Clickbank stats are really high for this product though.

Everybody, thanks for the input. This should give me what I need to shape this into something that should get some sort of responsiveness, but I did have one question:

The way it had always been presented to me had been, you don't "sell" as an affiliate; you're supposed to come off as this mild-mannered, impartial reviewer guy (and I'm not making light of my efforts and experience described in this particular site at all) who doesn't try to get the sale. You simply "warm them up to it" It's been touted before that visitors don't want to hit sales copy, only to be led onto a site throwing more sales copy at them, in essence, that editorial copy "sells" better than sales copy, even for preselling. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
