She's going about it the right way! Your local market is easier to reach and often less expensive in terms of time and effort and money. Product brochures (if you can leave them at a friendly store) are also good.

Stay away from the FFA (free for all) ad sites like that one. The only ones going there are those who want to post THEIR ads and people harvesting their addresses to send them spam about the latest scam opportunity. If she posts in a forum regularly, leaving a link to her website is allowed (in her signature) and that often gets business.

Actually, no, don't use an internet ad in a magazine. Craft your ad FOR that magazine... look at the wording of long-running ads and see which ones draw the eye. The long-running ads are the successful ones, so model yours after those!
As an example, the interminable "one page saleslettert" on Internet has a different response in print media (sometimes it's MORE successful... and sometimes it's a lot less successful.) You have to look at the market carefully before throwing money at it.
