I agree that negative thinking is wasteful.
That said, I wonder whether you haven't actually read negativism into Tracy's posts that just isn't there.
True, she started off with the "scam" notion. But, once that was resolved - with her, and BY her, it's clear to me that there has been a fundamental shift in the culture of the company. (It doesn't escape me that a "woman-owned" company is now being run by a man.)
The shift in philosophy leaves me saddened, to say the least. One notion that has been lost in the discussion, and quite possibly in the company itself, is that the product is good. It sold itself. Yeah, what you buy costs, but if you compare that cost to the length of time it takes to use it up, you wind up spending about the same, for much better (for the time being) products. What really worries me is that the products might take the road of the Oreo cookie. "Useta" be good!
Now, you get this lardy crap that sticks to the roof of your mouth. It's so bad that I actually wrote AND called to complain. (They offered me coupons for more crap they make, which I politely declined, pointing out that the accountants probably wouldn't have done a better job with the other products, either.)
Anyway, I've fought with myself since this thread started to just STAY OUT OF IT!
I lose.
Look, Tracy. If you really want to help other women, add to your repetoire a spiel about NO being a perfectly acceptable answer. I think your experience, and that of the women whose stories I read on the websites (yeah, I followed links from the one you gave!) spring from "our" upbringing. Be nice. Be agreeable. That, and the rallies that play on people's desire to make a bunch of money can conspire to lead one into behaviors and actions that they don't want to take, and that they know damned well will fail when they agree. (I can't tell you how many times my Grandmother died before I learned to just say "I'm not going to do that. I don't want to."
The minute my latest consultant brought up the idea of my selling the product, I let her know in no uncertain terms that I had my OWN dreams. I had my OWN notion of what kinds of things I could give myself completely to. Having had a job that entailed meetings from one end of the day to the next, I wasn't about to come home and go to another meeting - I didn't care HOW (so-called) uplifting it was going to be.
And, I let her know that if my transactions with her were going to turn into recruiting sessions, I knew a BUNCH of other people selling the stuff who wouldn't put me through those changes to get my refills.
You asked how to get the word out, in one of your posts.
Go to the top.
Tell the MAN at the top of the company how people feel. Point him to these threads. Let him know your movement is growing against the direction the company is taking. Encourage everybody who is discontent to do the same.
Then, on those websites devoted to the topic, make an effort to educate women to the side of them that makes them vulnerable to the labeling.
Quitter? Damn right! This aint fuh me, and I ain't gon' do it!
Negative Nelly? (My bank balance says different)
Don't tell my husband? You must be out of your mind! That's like "don't tell your left hand that your right one is stealing!"
PUH-leez!
Oh! Before I forget. You strike me as smart enough to recognize troll behavior. Be like my brother. He says "When I find myself talkin' to a fool, I just say 'Nice talkin' to ya,' and I walk away."
Also be mindful of your own posts, and make every effort to eliminate any wording that might even remotely be "emotionally charged." It brings out the crazies, dontcha know. And you've got a wealth of actual experience that makes the "zingers" unnecessary.
Ok. I'm getting on my soapbox. Time to go.
Marye
P.S. I hope you're satisfied! I haven't posted this much in FOREVER, but I wasn't getting anything else done!

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so. You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual. We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
