PokaPoka62.exe

In Response To: Re: some progress and one ongoing problem (Richard)

I think the PokaPoka62.exe file is your problem. I am not sure if the folder it is under (EBT) is needed by your system, but you can try deleting just the file. Check to see the dates on the file and the folder. If they are all recent (like after the popups hell started), you should definitely delete it.

You may run into a problem where you cannot delete it because it is being used by windows. If that is the case look in your msconfig under the startup folder. Go to start, then run, then type in "msconfig" without the quotations. Then hit OK. A window will come up. Click on the "startup" tab. Look to see if that file is anywhere in there. If it is, disable it from starting up when Windows starts up by unchecking the box next ot the reference to the program. Close out of that msconfig but do not restart just yet if it tells you to do so. First, do a ctrl+alt+del after you have exoted msconfig. You will see a list of programs currently running on your syste,m. See if the pokapoka program is showing. If it is, make sure you shut it down (the poka file, that is). Then, go back into your EBT folder and try deleting it.
If it deletes, restart windows. Then when your system is up and running again, run the reg cleaner to cear out any reference ot the file in the registry.
If it does not delete, restart windows THEN go into the EBT folder and try deleting it. If it does, then run the reg cleaner again.

If this still does not work, you may need to try to delete the file within DOS.

Problem is, I never used WinXP. I hear that you cannot shutdown windows into DOS like previous Winnows poerating systems. I may be wrong. So if you can reboot into DOS, this is how you will need to delete the file.

If you need to know how to delete the file within DOS, let me know.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
