It is way too hard to help you on a forum. If I were at your computer, I could probably have it fixed in a half hour.
My suggestion to you is to make sure you have the latest version of spybot (they recently had a new release but you have to reinstall it, it won't just happen using the auto-update feature).
Get Ad-aware SE Personal (free) Go to download.com here:
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3003-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-2
You need more than one spyware cleaner. Ad-aware and spybot are the best but you need both. One catches things the other does not.
I also find that the anti-spyware software in the Yahoo toolbar is pretty decent, and a fast to scan. I'd definitely install the toolbar and run the spyware feature every so often. Especially if the above 2 programs seem to be missing something.
I think at this point, you might do well to download TweakNow registry cleaner (free).
http://www.download.com/TweakNow-RegCleaner/3000-2094_4-10410044.html?tag=lst-0-1
It will quickly scan your system registry and show you what items definitely can be removed, ones that it is not certain about and ones that are not safe to remove. You can go ahead and have the program delete all the "safe to delete" items. I would run this BEFORE and AFTER you run spybot and ad-aware. Do not let it delete any of the registry entries that are "not safe to delete" or "Not sure" unless you know for a fact that they can be removed with no problem. If you have no clue, jus tleave them there, although they might be the root of some problems you are having but not necessarily.
Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and do the free online virus scan. Before I bought PC-Cillin by Trend Micro, this online scan has saved me many times. It catches things norton never caught on my system. I bought PC-Cillin 6 months ago and ever since have had none of the problems i had when using Norton. I suggest you seriously consider getting PC-Cillin or maybe norton if you like. I know that PC-Cillin works best for me. It costs 49.95 but you can get it for $25.00 on a copmpetitive upgrade rebate if you have the proof of purchase hey require for you other anti virus program. HOwever, if you do get it, do not bother installing the Anti-spam feature. It is installed separately from the rest of the program. IMO, it is still in beta stage and doe snot work as good as it should. Youcan buy it from this link...
http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/personal.htm
Here's what I would do in order...
1. Run Tweaknow reg cleaner and delete any "safe to delete" registry entries it finds.
2. Run spybot after you install the newest version.
3. Install and run Adaware.
4. Do step one again. Only remove any new "safe to delete" entries it finds. It may not find any, but you need to check.
5. Run the free online trend micro virus scan.
6. Do step one again. Only remove any new "safe to delete" entries it finds. It may not find any, but you need to check.
7. Reboot your system even if in the above process you already did at some point.
If your system is fixed. Great. Reinstall your AV program, if it is still giving you problems, consider a different program. Seriously. Spyware and virus protection is not something you need to take lightly these days.
If your system is not fixed, sorry to hear it. Depending on your skills, I would consider taking it somewhere for serviceing.
Hope some of this helps you. But like i said, it's too hard to help a problem like this remotely.

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
