Speaking as an artist...

Uh, it hasn't. Not that much. There's a demand in some areas, but it's a tough market. There's also a demand for cheap prints, but you have to know where that market is (I sell Cheap Prints at science fiction conventions)

Typically, prints don't appreciate much in value unless the artist is very well known.
This can be a good market, but you have to know who buys this, what they buy, and where the buyer is likely to see your ads. You have to know who's hot. I know who's hot in the scifi market, but have no clue in the other markets. Specializing in a certain type of print can help, though I don't know what's popular outside the scifi market.
That's going to be your big challenge: who do you market this to? I can guarantee it's not a 'if you build a website they will come.' Artists use their own websites for marketing and usually have blogs and mailing lists to let their direct customers know when a new print is being released. In addition, they also sell tee shirts and other nifty things, which will sometimes sell when the prints don't.
Good luck. My experience as an artist is that you have to be a savvy marketer.
