Posted By: S. Tanna In Response To: newnetmail..anyone heard of this spam free e mail service? (Anthony)
Saturday, 30 July 2005, at 6:43 p.m.
Regarding their service:
Personally, if was, me in your shoes: I don't think it will help you eliminate spam: Because, unless I've completed misunderstood, the limitation is that only your special account with them is protected, and this special account can only receive emails from their other subscribers. (And just how many people do you know who are actually subscribers?)
Which means, that if you need to receive email from anybody else (thru conventional email), and I'm betting you will, your conventional email account, which you will still be reading, is exposed to spam. phising, viruses, etc.
I'd think you'd probably get more value spending the money on something that helps protect your conventional email account.
Now if you are attracted to the money aspect of their plan, that's up to you. All I can say is that I'm personally not attracted to it.
First, the only way to become an affiliate is to become a customer, and to become a customer is to become an affiliate. I'd be curious to know if there are any substantial sales volume to people to just use the service?
Second, the commission rates are not very high, and you don't get paid at all on the higher rate service, unless you yourself buy the higher rate service.
Third, for the reasons already stated, it's not a product that I personally would feel comfortable promoting.
Reduce Spam:
First, get a program that protects your email from viruses and so on. I have been using Norton Internet Security recently, and am happy with that.
Second, and this is not suitable for everybody, but okay for personal email (I wouldn't myself using it on a business address) is to consider using a system that uses challenge/response system. Basically when new people send you email they get a message that they must respond to get their message thru. Spam Arrest, for example, offers such a service, and it works with your existing email account.
Third, if your email is going thru your web host, start blocking domains. I get alot of spam, and when I get a spam, I do Properties->Message Source->look at the headers. If the spam comes from a Chinese, Pakistan, etc. domain or some email marketing company (whereever), find out by doing WHOIS, I block the domain. I have been doing this for about 2-3 weeks, not religiously but quite often, and have cut my spam received by more than 50%.
Best Ways (In My Opinion) to make money from email.
1. Find affiliate programs for software products related to email.
For example: There are many spam filtering products available in ClickBank with affiliate programs. You don't have to buy yourself to promote them.
For example: If you wanted to promote Norton Internet Security, I don't know if Symantec/Norton have an affiliate program, but I know Amazon does, and Amazon sells Norton products (you probably won't make much from this unless you sell a lot, but if you're already doing Amazon, then it's something else you could promote.
2. Spam Arrest has an affiliate program.
You can promote it, whether or not you yourself use their service. And the affiliate program is free to join.
I have reviewed it http://www.affiliatecavern.com/affiliate_spamarrest.php
I expect to have some more thoughts on this program in future (I'm currently running their banners at a very busy site to test), so may be updating that page, eventually.
3. It is also possible to start your own email service, and sell ads on that.
See http://www.emailaddresses.com/email_ownservice.htm (this is not my site, but just one that I was made aware of some years ago)
Recommend Affiliate programs, FREE to join, Upto 75% Commission

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
