I have been wanting to post about this but was afraid I'd be met with ugliness.
But now I cannot hold back.
A person comes here and posts a question - a legitimate one. Others here who frequent other boards say that the post is being made on other forums.
People automatically call this spamming, although it is not spamming, it is a person trying to maximize the answers to their question. But nonetheless, many here just label them as a spammer.
To boot, we have Roadie here who has some ties to a popular domain registrar making threats to report them to the registrar for spam, which is not a small deal and can cost a person hundreds of dollars and lose their domain, even though they are not really a spammer. Just because someone posts the same questions to many forums it means absolutely nothing and is of no concern to anyone unless that message is obviously spam to scam people or to get them to buy into an opportunity or whatever.
Now tell me something people, do you think that this is good ettiquette? No, it's not. In fact, it will make otherwise legitimate people stay away from this or any forum where they are constantly labeled unjustly as a spammer and even threatened to be reported to their domain registrar as such and chance losing their domain and having to pay fines.
Now I ask this to Leslie. Do you really want this type of false accusing and threatening to keep going on? If so, why? What good does that do for you, your forum, or anyone? There is far more damage that can be done than any good.
I'm not telling anyone how to run their forum, but there are certain things being done here by certain people who want to be the "saviour of the day" all the time. Simply put, that will prove to work against you and your forum someday if it hasn't had a bearing already.
I visit this forum for info and I also visit because I like to help out when I can with answers to questions. I have many sites up and much experience with many types of internet business. I have sites I could post here that would help some people, but I never do because I see how some people react here and falsely accuse others for nothing. I just post them to other forums. Simply put, it isn't worth possibly being falsely accused as a scammer or a spammer and having someone report me to his buddies at my favorite registrar and getting my domain falsely tagged as spam and getting a fine for it. Sure, I know I have nothing to worry about as I am not a spammer or a scammer, but I also have no way of telling what may happen just because Roadie "has a hunch". then group think kicks in and we all know where that gets us.
Who knows, maybe Leslie will give Roadie some information on me now that I posted this so that Roadie can find out the domains I own at godaddy and report me for spam. Well, that's a chance I'll have to take. I just think something needs to be said and done about this. I have seen this happen here before without saying a word about it.
Roadie, remember the story of the boy who cried wolf? Well, that sort of applies here. Maybe I will write a modified version of the story for you and others to learn from. I'll call it, "The Raodie Who Cried Spam".

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so. You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual. We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
