The more I think about this, the more certain I am that's what she must have been doing. I recall asking her about insurance once, and she said she was covered -- but I can't imagine any insurance company just saying, "Oh sure, we'll cover you even if you spread the cream cheese with your foot."
I am surprised, though, that people who sell packaged stuff also have to be licensed by the health department. A couple of places that I worked had a "muffin lady" who came by every morning with a basketload of goodies and I often wondered if she was licensed (other than just a business license).
You know what blows me away? Last week I went to a charity swap meet. There was a man selling his used stuff, and he said, "Lady, I have Mexican food for sale." He was right there in plain sight (as were a couple of other people) with his big pots of homemade Mexican food -- and apparently somebody goes door to door with tamales. I would *never* buy this stuff because I have no idea what their kitchen looks like -- but tons of people do. I can't believe it.
I'll look into it, but I might scrap the idea if you're right. I can't handle anything complicated at the moment. Thanx!
