FIB - Scams 101 - Ye Olde Archives

Y'know, I want to be a good hostess and say "Welcome!" but I have to smack you one.....

In Response To: Wish I found this site 7 months ago! (John Damm)

You leave me no choice (oh, and welcome... pull up a brownie and have a seat).

> I am a big sucker , too.

If you believe what you're promoting, you're *still* a big sucker.

> I'm glad I am not the only one that has lost
> thousands of dollars on the internet.

That's why I'm smacking you -- because so many people on this forum have lost thousands, and I don't want to see them lose any more by buying into the kind of crap you're promoting.

> If you are new to internet marketing before joining ANY program, come in
> here and read up on it or ask questions.

And DON'T pay $47 a month for mentoring that leaves the menteeee prowling the forums trying to figure out what to do next -- you forgot to say that.

My first inclination is to be gentle --

but I'm am bothered by the fact that in this thread, you said: "I have spent so much money on ads that didn't work." Then you said, "I have recently met some people on the net that actually want to help me and not just want my money."

I assume that would be the two fine-looking gents on the site you're promoting (incrediblesystem.com). I'm wondering -- if you're paying them $47 a month to mentor you so you can provide them with a testimonial, why do you have to ask where to advertise??

Okay, I admit it -- I have NO experience with incrediblesystem.com, and everything you are about to read is strictly my personal opinion, which sprouts from attitudes curdled in the School of Hard Knocks -- but here's what I noticed. (I tried to cut and paste but the right-click function is disabled; gee I hate that.)

>> Create $1,057.50 in the next 30 days.

>> Once you make that we'll show you how to make $1,057.50 every week.

>> Reinvest your profits and multiply 5X over the next 10 weeks.

>> (Quote)... "Boldly however, if you do what we tell you to do, you will make $27,495 in the next 6 weeks; otherwise we insist you get your money back."

>> (Quote)... "If after 90 days you are not making $1,057.50 a week or more, then we will refund every penny of the cost to get started, no questions asked."

>> (Quote)... "Written July 12, 2005"

I'm gagging, but I'll try to talk.

Just looking at the hightlights I plucked out, do you see a problem here?

You pay $47 per month for these guys to mentor you. They're going to teach you to become "a streamlined moneymaking superaffiliate," so they say. Selling their program, I assume?? (I have to assume that, since it seems to be the only affiliate program on your site.)

No hype?

Not only does their site contain enough hype to kill an ox -- it contains so many contradictions it's hysterical.

They INSIST you get your money back if you don't make $27,495 in the NEXT SIX WEEKS ... (where does that number come from, pray tell?) ... but their guarantee says you'll be making $1,057.50 PER WEEK in the next 90 DAYS or you'll get your money back. (Lemme see, $1,057.50 x 13 weeks = $13,747.50... coincidentally, that's exactly half of the $27,495 you already finished earning 7 weeks earlier.)

The way I read it, you "create" $1,057.50 in "the next 30 days" -- and somehow you "make" another $26,437.50 in the next TWO WEEKS? Yes, that's what it says when they "boldly" go where no (honest) man has gone before and say you will make $27,495 in the next SIX WEEKS. (Maybe by "create" and "make" they mean "print" -- at least that would make sense.)

(Am I the only one who's dizzy?)

While you're figuring out if their program works (obviously you haven't achieved the promised income yet or you wouldn't be saying your ads don't work and asking for help) -- you are suckering other people (who don't understand about scams as well as you do) into paying $47 a month so they can go on forums and say, "Help! I don't know how to advertise."

What's wrong with this picture?

Luv,

MaaMaw

P.S. It's one thing to put the date on your page and make it *appear* to have been updated that very day -- but to say "Written" on that very day is a boldfaced lie, as far as I can tell. (No, Mr. Lawyer, I can't prove it wasn't just written today, that's only my opinion -- but it does seem unlikely John was linking to it yesterday on Tony's forum if it only got writ today, now don't it?) (Damn turnip truck! I landed on my head again.)

P.S. Again: I fear my post is a bit disjointed, but it's very hard to make sense out of such rot. (Of course I saved the page so they can't some back and claim I made it up; strangely, they didn't disable that.)

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
