No kidding.
HOWEVER, recognize that the purpose of Wikipedia is much different than most material and they are essentially saying that if you upload an article, EVERYONE else on the planet has the right to edit or correct it or change it and you can't do squat about it.
They're doing a sort of "constructed knowledge"... uhmm... I'll quit with those words because that's one of several projects I'm doing formal research for (as in "to be published in an academic journal and be reviewed by boatloads of professors) ... and you really, seriously don't want or need to know the math, psychology, sociology, and legal issues behind all that.
Basically they're saying that Wikipedia is public domain.
However, not all that's free is public domain.

There are several types of "alternate licenses" for text and other materials. Basically it's kind of a public domain with modifications -- one of my friends invented a PetACat license: you can do anything you like with the text, but in return please pet a cat. You can pet a real cat, a stuffed toy, or whatever you like -- but please pet a cat. (yes, it's lighthearted and silly, but it has a little charm of its own.)
Free BSD is another type of this license.
YOU, however, want a Regular Old copyright on things and if you don't put it on there, I'm gonna come HAUNT you. Mmmmkay?
