First, I admire your commitment to keep doing what you can. Being (relatively) young and healthy, I cannot imagine what you are facing and won't even pretend to know, but I have a great respect for "fighters", and it certainly seems like you fall into this category.
I have an SBI site that I haven't done much with, but can comment on it. SBI is an easier way to get a website up and running, but to take advantage of the entire system, you will need to do a *LOT* of work. There are manuals and books that will lead you along, as well as support forums where you can ask questions. And you get their complete system for a much lower price than you would pay for web hosting and all of the other tools they offer. I'd recommend it for anyone that is looking to start a business or that already has one. I do not recommend it if you think that it's going to be a "no work" system. As with most legitimate businesses, you might be rewarded for your hard work, but there are no guarantees.
Mel made another good point: you have to sell where your market wants to buy. But regardless of where you sell your system, people will always be looking for new poetry, so perhaps a membership-style website or a subscription service for poetry updates might be a way to generate a steady income stream.
The below link is to one of my websites where you can download (for free) several manuals that are published by the SBI people. Please (everyone) help yourself.
