My wife wanted to become a Nurse. So, we scrimped and saved the money. She took all the basic courses and applied for the nursing program.
She was turned down, due to the linited availability of slots. But the College assured her, "Well, just take these additional classes, and you'll get in next year."
She was turned down for the nursing program again.
Finally, after the College had sucked all the money they could out of us, she was turned down again!!
The reason?? She had no prior experience. Folks who had become Nurse's aides or even worked in an old folk's home got in ahead of her...even though she had a better education and had fulfilled all the prerequisites and then some.
So, she applied at another Nursing school, although it was farther away. BAM! She was accepted.
A year later, she graduated. Now she takes care of premature infants and children with developmental problems as a Pediatric Nurse.
The lesson is...do what Mel recommended. Get a part-time job in your chosen field, volunteer if you have to, but get some real-world EXPERIENCE to put with your degree.
You'll be very glad you did.
