1) The guy IS a pastor of a church in Louisiana. There is a link to the church from the Disciple's Cross website.

2) He WILL buy them back from you if you meet standards, and he sends back the ones that he does not accept so you can sell them at craft shows, yard sales, your own web site, or wherever else you want.

3) I am not real co-ordinated and it takes me longer than 5 minutes to make a cross, but I can see that in time with practice the 5-minute cross could realistically happen.

4) HOWEVER the snag is in the turn-around time once you send in the product. When I called 2-3 weeks ago looking for what I had sent in (Delivery Confirmation so I know when they received it) in OCTOBER, 2004 (!!!) they were just getting to what had come in that week but the quality control person was on jury duty. I have already received one check from them, so I know the whole thing is legitimate, but I really think the size of it got away from them and they are not equipped to handle the volume, inspite of hiring extra people. They have shifted gears more than once (people who have demonstrated that their crosses meet quality control standards now by-pass inspection, freeing up inspectors to check the work of newer people) so they are working to improve, but a five month turn-around time is still not acceptable. They have made other changes also.

5) Selling them at local bookstores is harder and harder because there are fewer "mom and pop" type of stores around. They are replaced by national and regional chains who do not purchase anything except through corporate contracts. You can (and I have) sell small quantities to small stores run by local mega-churches. There is also a new program where if you do convince a larger chain to carry the product you get a percentage of the profit, without having to make them all yourself (whew!).

6) It most definitely is NOT for everybody and I emphatically would NOT recommend depending on the money you will get eventually from selling the finished product back to the company, but I nevertheless am convinced that it is a legitimate undertaking. You make more money selling them locally, anyway!

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
