I, for one, am a bit disgusted at the use of the word "mentor" in conjunction with these "coaching opportunities" for which the coachee must pay thousands of dollars.
Here's Tom's take on the whole thing:
1. Only one person is guaranteed to make money in these ventures: the coach. As Brian Tracy says on one of his CDs, if a man with experience meets a man with money, the man with the experience will end up with the money -- and the man with the money will end up with the experience.
2. A mentor does what he does without additional charges. A mentor can be someone at work, someone you find on the Internet, someone at your place of worship, or even your next door neighbor. I think it would be reasonable to expect to pay for materials used (such as books and the occasional meal at a restaurant when you meet -- to not do so would be quite disrespectful), but a mentor, by the true definition of the word, doesn't charge for his time.
3. If all of these coaching opportunities are so good (and pardon my screaming), THEN WHY IN THE WORLD DO THEY CHARGE MONEY? WHY NOT DO A JOINT VENTURE WHERE THE PERSON BEING MENTORED AGREES TO FORK OVER 50% OF THE PROFITS FROM THE FIRST WEB SITE FOREVER?. Put your money where your mouth is. If you're that good, then assume some risk yourself, Coach.
4. A better plan? Purchase the $197 course, frequent a good discussion board or three, and ask honest questions at the board when you're stumped. And learn whom you can trust at those boards. Besides, if the course is legit, you should be able to e-mail the author if you have questions.
The last thing you need to do when you are experiencing financial pressures is to have to fork over thousands of dollars to someone you've only heard about on the Internet in the hope that you'll learn how to do it right. Better to buy that $197 course (especially this one - I do own it, but that's MaaMaw's link, not mine) because you will get a good understanding of what it takes to be successful online, and at the very least, you'll end up smarter, but only $197 poorer.

Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.
