I'm not sure what type of consulting you're doing, so I'll assume it's marketing/home business related?
I can't tell you if your $195 package is a good idea or not because I have no idea who you are, what information you'll be giving, and what sort of credentials you have.
However, I do believe that your idea of giving away information in hopes of upsells could be successful. Just stop targeting the "broke people."
For example.. lets say you're a Google Adwords expert. You write a free e-book or e-course. Promote it via Adwords (since you ARE the expert). Give solid, usable content. At the beginning and end (or in the sig if it's an email), write about your consulting business with links to the appropriate sales pages.
If your $195 package will personally assist the customer to help build successful Adwords campaigns, you'd probably get some good business if the course content is good.
