Experience from the Heart!

In Response To: Are there any good sites for biz op's? (shades of orange)

I can tell you from experience that most biz opps are ripoffs. You make other people rich is what you do. You absolutely have to find something you are personally good at or use your own knowledge or education to put something together. Are you an artist? Are you a good telemarketer? Are you a people person? You really have to find your own "niche". Let me tell you what I am doing. I have an Associates Degree in Commercial Art. I love to write and draw. I decided to create an inexpensive local paper in my community that prints good news. My niche is to put it in local waiting rooms.
I also have a Bachelors Degree in Business where I studied marketing and I have past experience in bill collecting by phone, cold calling people for mortgages and knocking on doors selling door to door. I currently work for the government as a Contract Manager. I write govt. Contracts for facilities for abused and neglected children. I also sit with CFO's and Directors in board rooms and negotiate terms of the contract face to face. SO I sell my contracts and its terms face to face and I also keep in touch on the phone.

It doesn't matter what you do for a business. Don't believe the hype that you don't have to talk to people. If you don't have the courage to tell people what you have to offer or the ability to speak to them face to face you will have no luck with anything. Even if you sell customized candy bars, which I have also done, you still have to show it to the customer.
My experiences from my education and job experiences will allow me to do what is necessary to succeed. Now, here is where these boards come in handy. I have corresponded with many people on these boards: Jim Straw, Don Alm, Mel, Vondre Whaley and a few others. They have been courteous and responded in a timely manner. When you figure out what you want to do, you put your ideas on the board and many of the FIB'er and SOW folk will come to your aid with advice and criticisms that can do nothing but help you.
They can refer you to sites or they actually have similar experiences. I actually have a big notebook where I have saved posts from these boards and emails that I use for reference. You also have the local library that typically has biz opp books. You can get inspiration from books and the members of these boards. YOu just have to be open and listen. Maw Maw, Jim Straw, Pete Egeler, Mel, Dennis Bevers, Don Alm and Vondre Whaley have been inspirational to me.
I pretty much read anything and everything they post. These are people who have been out there in the trenches and you can learn from their experiences and failures without reinventing the wheel. So do this, come up with something you enjoy doing and let everyone know and I am sure you can get some starter info to "git er done".

Good Luck, The BD

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so.  We are not responsible or liable for any claim arising from the content of any such discussions or postings or for any error, defamation, libel, slander, omission, falsehood, obscenity, pornography, profanity, danger, or inaccuracy contained in any information contained within such locations on the Site.
You are prohibited from posting or transmitting any unlawful, threatening, libelous, defamatory, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic, or profane materials or any material that could constitute or encourage conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.  You are likewise prohibited from posting any false claims against any company or individual.  We will fully cooperate with any law enforcement authorities or court order requesting or directing us to disclose the identity of anyone posting any such information or materials.
By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
