2000 untargeted -> 100 targeted visitors

In Response To: Get More Eyeballs Viewing Your Web Page (Bill Cornelius)

I'm not going to comment on the morality question raised by others, but it's a good point, which I don't know the answer to. One possible counter argument on your side, is if not set to your friend's site, presumably the start page would be Google, Yahoo or whatever - which are also commercial for-profit sites (but I'm not sure this is a complete answer either).

Anyway, I'll imagine that your using an Internet cafe's computers with permission, so I needn't to answer that before thinking about the traffic question.

Unless your friend's site is of interest to everybody (like a general search engine), the 2000 page views traffic is essentially untargeted.

If your friend was to join (say) 2 banner exchanges, and 2 text link exchanges, and put all their ads on the page (I wouldn't put any more graphics ads), assuming a 2:1 exchange ratio: She'd earn 2000 banner exchange credits, and 2000 text link exchange credits, per day. She could use those to advertise her site. Assuming 1% of people seeing her banner on other sites click it, and 4% of people seeing her text ink on other sites click it -- she'd get 100 *targeted* visitors per day to her site (which to my mind is more useful than 2000 untargeted visitors).

In fact, she could do this, without even putting her site in the face of people in the library.

Design a page with just google's search form (they have a free one), and the 4 ads, and make that the library home page. But her banner/text ad credits lead to her sales site or whatever.

Couple of things:

1. She needs to join good exchanges.

2. Check the rules of the exchange allow it -- some exchanges won't allow her to advertise a different URL frm the one herr ads are shown on.

3. Check with the banner/text exchange, and tell em what she's doing and if it's okay. Because all these page-views (and ad loads) will come from a handful of IP addresses, and if they don't know better, could look to them like cheating.

4. Morality issue - dunno - but I know that wouldn't do it. Here's why: You might also want to look at my post further down about 117 Ideas. 100 targeted visitors per day, is nothing really, so if it was, I personally wouldn't do anything I had doubts about just for that.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
