Careful, les you are falling into the scammers trap of lumping MLM in with legit companies. I know you've read over and over from MLMers about how ALL companies are MLM. IBM is MLM cuz when they sell something, everyone gets a cut of the profits from their salaries. The CEO gets the most because he's at the top. This reframing and false defining of MLM helps to legitimize scam type MLM companies as it makes the sketchy MLM company equal with a legit company like IBM.

It works the other way around too. If a legit company like Avon is lumped in with MLMs which most people consider a bad opportunity, Avon's legitimacy is diminished. Avon becomes less legit because of its association with the shady MLM milieu.

Calling legit companies who actually sell product as "MLM" lowers their value. Face it, MLMs have a bad rap and will continue to do so. Smart marketers will not call a company an "MLM" when they actually have sales reps selling to people outside the company. Image is everything and how you decide to frame the company will either lower the company's value or raise it up.

Notice how Dennis Bevers never calls his company "MLM" even though he can recruit. He distances it from "MLM". His company is NOT MLM in any way, shape, or form. Dennis concentrates on the value he gives his customers. The benefits to his customers are a constant theme that's stressed throughout his presentation of his company. It is NOT MLM and he does not even make mention of it as MLM cuz it is not. He sells a useful product. As a businessperson, one should reframe their biz as Dennis does. Watkins, Mary Kay, Avon, Tupperware sales reps should not be called "MLM" even though they can be technically called "MLM". It would be better to say you're a foot-in-the-door-salesman for Avon than calling yourself a rep in MLM.

If a person is selling products to people and they frame their company as "MLM", they are screwing themselves over by putting their legit company in with what most people consider a "scam" or at best "sleazy". Perception is everything. Simply associating with shady characters makes you shady.

If I was selling Watkins products and someone called my company an MLM, I'd ask them, "You think Watkins is MLM?" And when they tell me about how MLMs recruit people, I'll tell 'em, "I don't recruit anyone." and continue with my sales pitch for the cool product.

MLM? Huh? What's that?

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example.         In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
