Hi all!
Ok, you guys did such a great job helping me earlier, I'm back with ANOTHER question.
I hired a designer to design my site which I intended to bascially use as a template. I wanted a professional design, but I fully intend to update/maintain the site myself. I taught myself some basic HTML years ago and I have Dreamweaver.
Now, I need to make some minor copy changes to my homepage. Trouble is, I tried to do this earlier and I somehow broke the links to the image and CSS folders. When I looked at the page again after making my changes, ALL of the images and formatting were GONE. :P
So I need to try again, but instead of trying to edit it in Dreamweaver, I'll just edit it in Notepad.
My designer has not sent me the site files. She might be away from her desk for the weekend...
Earlier, I saved my homepage by clicking on Save As from my IE browser window. (That might be part of what I did wrong.) Now, I want to COPY the file from the Web server via FTP, make the copy changes in Notepad, then upload it via FTP.
Since she hasn't sent me the files, I want to COPY the home page file, not take it down until I've edited the copy and everthing is as I want it without any problems. (Earlier, I had to send an SOS e-mail to her to fix it.) That way, if I do something wrong, the original home page is still intact.
Like most designers, she has a Web maintenance plan. But money is really tight right now which is why I deliberately intended to use it as a template and make changes myself.
I'm using SmartFTP. How can I COPY the home page file from the Web server, edit it (in Notepad) and then upload it back to the server without destroying the images and formatting?
