Help! Can't Send Messages Through MS Outlook

Hi all!

You gave such great advice earlier, so I'm back for more. This time, I've dealing with a problem I've actually had for a long time but have never really gotten resolved: I can't send messages through MS Outlook.

I can RECEIVE them, but I can't send them.

Per MaaMaw's recommendation, I use All Web Co as my host and they're pretty good. I've sent this question to their tech support, but I'm hoping I can get a quicker answer here.

Here's the message I just sent to All Web Co:

Hello,

I'm unable to use MS Outlook to send messages. I get an error message saying that it could not connect to the outgoing mail server. The program has no problems connecting to the incoming mail server and I can RECEIVE messages, but I cannot send them from Outlook.

I went through the help section, deleted all e-mail accounts and started over, just to make sure. Here's what I put in the required fields:

1. Your Name: Michelle Nightengale

2. E-mail Address: director at ecommunicationsinstitute.com (I didn't type it that way in the e-mail to them -- just here so that no automated idiots can swipe it.)

(Due to a horrendous spam problem a while back, I deleted the default address and instead, simply use director at ecommunicationsinstitute.com. However, to test it, I re-inserted it and tried to set up my POP e-mail account in Outlook, but it didn't work.)

3. Incoming mail server: mail.ecommunicationsinstitute.com

4. Outgoing mail server: mail.ecommunicationsinstitute.com

5. User name: ecommunicationsinstitute

6. Password: ********* (I'm hiding the password here for obvious reasons.)

This is the same user ID and password I use to log into my site control panel.

When I test the account settings, everything works EXCEPT the connection to the outgoing mail server.

What is going on? Why can't I use Outlook? For the most part, I use my Web-based Squirrel Mail account and never use my e-mail client. But I'm launching a new business and I need every part of my Web site in working order.

I'm including the error message I receive when I test the account settings.

Please help!

Sincerely,
Michelle

Error message received from Outlook:

* Send test e-mail message: The specified server was found, but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct. To access these settings, close this dialog then click More Settings and click on the Advanced tab.

* Find outgoing mail server (SMTP): Outlook could not connect to the outgoing mail server (SMTP). The problem could be the server name or port, or your server may not support SSL. Verify your port and SSL settings in More Settings under the Advanced tab.

End of SOS to All Web Co

If anyone's using Outlook and/or All Web Co, can you help me? I just find it weird that I can RECEIVE messages, but not send them.

Also, as I mentioned above, about 2 months ago, somebody had hijacked the PHP form on my site and was using it to send out spam that looked like it was coming from me. I was frantic.

Per some advice from this board, I deleted the default "catch-all" e-mail address and now only mail sent to the specific aliases I have set up get received. (It doesn't seem to matter though since I had this problem when I had a default address.)

Also, I quickly took down all pages other than the home page from my site to stop the hijacker in his tracks. (I think it was an automated hijacking.)

Anyway, my site is now completely re-designed and updated with a completely new PHP form. So it shouldn't be a problem right now, but I still don't want to restore the default address.

Does anyone here know what the problem is?

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,
Michelle

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
