Not sure you can make any changes like that in Notepad. I looked around nad found nothing.
But here's a free online ezine text formatting tool I found.

I believe that there are also free filter simulators, too, but I can't remember the URL's to those.
Not sure if you are going solo or if you are using a service like Aweber, but if you go with Aweber, they have formatting and filter tools in your admin control panel.
I hope you can afford $20/mo to use a service like Aweber. There are many important reasons to use a reputable service, one major one being that your deliverability rate will be much better than if you were to go solo.
One thing that's a bummer is if you decide to start out solo and then switch to a reputable service like aweber, you have to request your subs to optin all over again, which will decrease your subs as you lose some people who missed the email to resub or that decided to not resub after being given the choice.
On the other hand, I hear that emailaces does not require your previous subs to resub. There is however a downside to this which you may never have to deal with. Aweber and GetResponse both require resubbing in order to help cover your arse and their arse in case you get a spam complaint against you (which happens, especially when you have AOL users as subs, which you will have because a lot of people use AOL, even broadband users).
