Ask your friend how they intend to compete with Godaddy and Network Solutions and the other domain name resellers -- who ALSO sell these same addresses. How is this person going to bring customers in ... when Godaddy undercuts them for the same address?
How does your friend intend to handle issues such as refund requests and DNS transfer issues?
If you recall, "reselling domain names" was THE hot new business back in... was it 2000? Everyone snapped up domain names and registrar opportunities. That was the gold rush, when money was there to be made. Now, however, the gold rush is over and the women and chickens have moved in and the small businessperson has a very hard time competing with the WalMart next door.
If you know ISP issues and if you're very familiar with computers and you have an established computer business with clients, it's not a bad deal. Not a WONDERFUL deal (everyone wants ".com" and ".net" and ".org") but it's kind of okay.
If you're a novice and do NOT have an existing set of computer clients, then it's a waste of money.
