how to investigate a website...

Reading on the page, I see that they promise you can make $1,000/day. That's $360,000/year (plus change.)

Now... stop just a minute. How many people do you know are doing that well? Here's this guy, selling these "secrets" for a mere $49. If it was any good, you'd see sudden hype about it in the news papers and in the press. Wealth always brings attention.

> They talk about
> setting up online accounts.

"Affliliate websites" is what they mention... basically, you'd be setting up a downline of some sort (this should raise red flags because it means you're someone's downline and there may be a long chain above you. When you have 95,000 shoe stores in your town, almost nobody will make money selling shoes.)

Go to Google and type in "supermoneymakingsecrets.com", which will tell you how often this site is referenced. It comes up once (more red flags -- either nobody's talking about making $1k/day (rather unlikely) or it's some poor sucker who bought the program and the website.

Let's check on page ranking....
I use www.alexa.com (it's not registered, but Alexa tracks really hot websites as well) and find that it gets almost zero traffic.

So... zero traffic and he's making $1k in an hour on the Internet? What's he doing -- running Nigerian Scam letters out of his computer?

Let's see how old the website is (www.allwhois.com): It shows a real person and a real address and that the name on the address isn't "Bradley" (mentioned in the website) and that the site's been up since mid-April.

If it's been getting zero visitors since mid-April, what do you suppose the odds are that this person is actually making $1k/day from the web?

Next, we google up a phrase from the website and see where it comes from -- it comes from just that one website. So this technique isn't taking the world by storm and its search engine rankings are so low you can't find it with both hands and a guide dog.

Further snooping suggests it is either the "Professor James Bradley" book, "Internet Millions" or it's someone who's closely copying their ads (the quotes are because I haven't found the good professor's CV yet and there's a few things in the ads about this person that make me more than a little suspicious that he's a full professor or an assistant professor at an accredited university. Might be, but I'm a tiny bit skeptical.)

They also give you a "special price" that just happens to end "today." If you go back to the website tomorrow, you'll see that same 'special price' that just happens to end on tomorrow's date. It's an automated script that runs... the price never actually changes.

So, we have a website set up a mere 6 weeks ago, promising more money per month than many people make in a single year, with an hour a day's labor, and a price tag and no other information other than a few glowing testimonials that anyone could fake.

I'd call that pretty suspicious, wouldn't you?

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

By posting messages and/or content on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, you give permission for Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications to display, distribute and use the posting and content for publication, advertising, promotion, excerption or example. You grant Lesley Fountain/Friends In Business/Shoestring Success Publications complete, perpetual, but non-exclusive rights to use, archive, reproduce, adapt, modify, distribute, sub-license, repurpose, rework, compile, or offer for sale or resale the messages, postings or content appearing on this site in whole or in part, throughout the world and universe, on a royalty-free basis without remuneration.  If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board.
In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
