Do a google search for "homeshoring" and you will find several companies who hire for call-center type work but you do it from home. They have found that it works better for them than "offshoring" half-way around the world to people who speak with a thick accent and don't understand the American culture. At least one company, Alpine Access, does not require an application fee - you just have to have or get the right kind of phone set-up, which is not too expensive. It sounds like your biggest problem may be the grand-babies - clients absolutely insist that there be no homey background noises. The caller must at all costs think they are talking to a person in the office of the company they called. That means no kids, no barking dogs, no doorbells, no lawnmowers, etc. You would need a time frame when you could guarantee that. I believe part-time and off-hour work is available.
As far as survey companies go, I hear Survey Scout is the best. (Note to mods and MaaMaw: no affiliate link even though I have one.) They have close to 500 companies that offer surveys. The key to making surveys work for you is to sign up for as many as you qualify for. If you qualify for half of these (250) and they each sent you just one each month that paid $5, you would have $1250. Most people sign up for half a handful of companies and then complain that it's a ripoff because they only made a few dollars. You get out of it what you put into it. Hope this helps you.
