In Response To: Wireless internet access (Spud)
Thanks for the info. My purpose in this is to have access to an internet connection whenever I want. I am in the middle of a move from the midwest to the Rocky Mountains and my former cable connection is 1400 miles away from where I am now. The only acceess I have is at work......and we know how employers feel about that. Since I am not a resident here yet, the local library won't issue me a card. So.......I wanted to set up access whenever I wanted to have it.
The Verizon card is $80, plus a one or a two-year service commitment. The Verizon rep told me I could get the PC card bundled with the America's Choice plan (I would want three cell phones in about 3 months anyway) for $150 a month (3,000 minutes a month) and that would include two lines and a third would be $10/mo. The Verizon website shows two other cards for about $150 each, but I couldn't really tell what the difference was...one had an antenna on it......I'm not that tech savvy. I think the PC card by itself would run about $40/mo for access.
You can buy a pretty nice notebook at BB for $600 now and with the card and access, it should be around $700 + monthly fees. Seems pretty nice, given the ease of accessing from virtually anywhere.
The reason I need access now is due to a couple of on-line business projects that I need to do after hours and at my own leisure. Not during the daytime hours.
Cell phone service here seems fine, so I have no qualms about using that method to log on. Just wondering if it all makes sense. In this town, I think there are maybe two or three internt hot spots and I don't want to spend my evenings in Barnes & Noble all the time.
What about the internet provider? AOL?
Any other comments? It is appreciated. Thanks!!

| PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
