It'd be very difficult for me to spell out in details all the short-comings of our Governor and the New Orleans mayor, without it sounding like a political rant. Not allowed on MaaMaw's forum, without fear of getting beaned with one of her stale brownies.
Suffice it to say that people could have walked away from the flooding that occured when the levees over-flowed and collapsed.
Meanwhile, over in Mississippi, where they received the brunt of Katrina's storm surge, with crests exceeding 40 feet, with entire buildings shoved off their foundations, other buildings collapsed, and tremendous property damage, the loss of life was much lower.
Seven months later, the New Orealns politicians along with da Gov are still crying, waiting for someone to make everything right. Haven't heard near as much coming from our neighbors to the East. Ask The Tim if they aren't moving forward with rebuilding over in his state.
Months ago, a TX company offered to pay New Orleans %5 Million for the right to haul off every storm-wrecked vehicle, many of which were located far from their owners. The buyer was turned down. Last week it was announced that it would cost New Orleans & Louisiana $23 Million to have the same vehiclular scrap and waste to have it removed. Huh???
One of those parked buses was "commandeered" by a young man in New Orleans, who drove it around, picking up people, hauling them out of harm's way. I hope he got a medal both for saving lives and one bus that didn't get flooded. More likely, he was ticketed for unlawful use of gov't property or possible grand theft auto.
That's about as far as I can go without it sounding partisan politics.
