I doubt that the average consumer is going to try to buy a swimming pool from an import/export company/broker.
But yes, you have to be careful when buying wholesale/B2B from importers/exporters overseas (and even in the US). Many of the brokers on these B2B/wholesale sites, like alibaba.com, are scammers in one way or another.
Also be careful importing from China. Unless you go there yourself or have a presence there to look out for you, you'll be shipped half-arsed products which are less-than-sellable. A lot of Chinese MFGs have a habit of taking advantage of people who do not have a presence to watch over them. There is little to no legal recourse in these overseas transactions.
OK, OK, hold on. I know you don't believe me. Try it. Or just go to wholesale4um.com and ask others who are not me with experience.

PC. (er, ummm, I mean, PS.): Please don't take this as some xenophobic slam on the Chinese. The truth is simply the truth and needs to be spread regardless of who is offended.
