ClickBank and an Overloaded Affiliate (that would be me)...

Posted By: MaaMaw
Saturday, 14 January 2006, at 11:15 a.m.

I confess, I tend to overload myself (big DUH).

I'm doing a lot better lately since working only on FIB and AZOO, but still, there are affiliate programs I forgot about, even here on FIB.

Today I decided to check every affiliate manager I'd ever signed up with, just in case.

There was $70-something on ClickBank.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... where'd that come from??  (Actually I do promote two of those programs but passively, not actively right now, and I had forgotten they were even ClickBank.)

It turns out that ClickBank charges you $2 per month if your account is dormant for (I can't remember, 30 days I think).  If it hits some other dormancy limit (maybe 1 year?), they charge you $10.

Also, they charge $2.50 to send a check.  (I hadn't gotten a check because I stupidly kept the default threshold of $100.)

Okay, so I lost more than a quarter of what I earned by being careless, but I expect I'll get what's left shortly.

Now I notice -- if you earn $500 a year or more -- they want your EIN and will NOT accept your SSN.

I don't earn that much with them obviously, but I do with other things and I might someday with them, who knows? -- but as my friend would say, "ain't no day" I'm gonna apply for an Employer Identification Number just so I can get paid by ClickBank.

It seems strange.

I haven't run across any other affiliate management programs that charge you money if you don't make sales, and nobody else has insisted on an EIN.  I give them my SSN and they send me a 1099.

Three reasons for posting this...

1.  I'm wondering if other people actually do this, or is ClickBank unique and don't you think it's odd (i.e., does it tick you off like it ticks me off)?

2.  Don't be a ninny and forget about money you might have earned here or there.

3.  I felt like hearing myself talk.

Luv,

MaaMaw

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
