Hope everyone had a positootly wonderful Christmas!!
I'm reading everything I can get my hands on about this, and I would like to hear your thoughts...
If you provide "news" in the form of a blog ON your site, or a bulletin board, or a "news ticker" or whatever...
You have FRESH CONTENT on a more or less constant basis, which the search engines index VERY fast, IMHO, as evidenced here on the FIB board (many's the time I've wanted to "unsay" something a few days later and it's already on Google for all the world to see!).If you provide "news" in the form of a blog OFF your site (i.e., Blogger.com)...
Your main site is getting OUTSIDE LINKS in the form of links from your blog (which has no ranking yet, so that is of doubtful significance except for the long haul). However, between pinging and RSS feeds and linking to other blogs and news stories, etc., there is the possibility (probability?) of getting links to your blog, and maybe your main site, from far and wide (again, over the very long haul).I hate blogging, but I've decided I'm going to do it -- short & simple, lots of links to photos, animal stories, etc. (Anyhoo, part of hating it was because I felt I was regurgitating things I should be putting right here on the bulletin board, and I hated saying, "Go to my blog to read it" when you should have been able to read it on the board. That won't be a problem on A-Zoo.)
So what would you do... ONsite or OFFsite?
Lots of my critters on AmericaZoo are near the top of the search engines -- but hundreds are nowhere to be found (unless you go through 15 pages). I need to do this as part of my effort to bring those guys up, because while I'm doing quite well on Google with the ones that *are* coming up, I'm missing HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SEARCHES for the more common critters, and I shudder to think what I'm missing in Google Adsense income because of it.
I'm not worrying about SEO too much at this point -- just tons of great content and interactive stuff and educational stuff -- but I believe this "Where To Put My News" thing is CRITICAL to SE success, and I don't want to blow it.
Any and all opinions gratefully considered... not only about where to put a blog, but if you think ONsite is better -- Blog vs. Board? (Remember, on a board I would likely be the only one talkin', besides which, I'm going to put up an "Ask Katie" board later, and I don't want my "news" to take away from her board in any way; I think it will have to be a blog for news.)

| PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
