Advertising where the only people coming in are other people looking to place free ads really doesn't usually lead to a lot of sales. Sort of like fishing in a dry lake. Might seem like fishing but you aren't likely to catch anything.
This actually explains why boards like this one are so careful to be sure the mods are on top of ads; if a board like this suddenly starts simply allowing ads to be placed then that's all that would be here....lots of ads. And the only people coming in would be the people looking to place the ads.
When was the last time you went to a website that was filled with nothing but ads and actually took the time to REALLY take a look at what was being offered? (Unless you were spying on the competition in order to get some ad ideas chances are pretty good it isn't a daily activity)
Want some simple proof that what I am saying is fairly accurate? All you have to do is look who and what is being advertised. Do you see any "major players" being advertised there? (Yahoo, Google, Amazon, eBay)
And do you see any replies to any of the post?
Yes there are some views, but darned few. Less than 10 for the most part from what I saw. Since the conversion rate of the average ad online is about 3 to 5%, that means for every 100 people who visit an ad (or a site actually) you will achieve less than 10 sales.
You get what you pay for. This is especially true in advertising.
