Well, I am not surprised that they wanted this info before you see the prices because most real wholesale distributors want proof that you are a reseller before they will let you see prices/order from them.
Distributors that claim they are wholesalers but do not protect their retailers and just sell to anyone who has a credit card and freely display the wholesale price are not really true wholesale distributors but rather retailers with low prices. With this definition, essentially Walmart and any big box store is a wholesaler.
As for junky sites that are hard to figure out, I find that this is the case with many wholesalers. Many wholesalers are behind the times when it comes to the internet and technology. If they even have a website you can bet that it is not the best one you have ever seen. I have a distributor right now that I use and their website is terrible. It's so terrible (the order system) that it's almost less of a hassle to write up a PO and just fax it in.
