Dear Kiddies,
Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I've just been through an agonizing 36-hour Google Adsense Hair-Pulling Event.
I'm revising (make that "completely redoing") the "Zoo Locator" on my site; it was tiny and seriously outdated, and I'm making it current and very comprehensive.
My thought was to attract Google ads for places like Priceline and Travelocity, which pay well (don't you just *adore* the little "Am I going to die?" gnome?).
Sorry, back on track...
Well, it ain't happenin'.
All I'm getting are ads for stuffed animals, save the rain forest, etc., which is what I WANT elsewhere on the site, but not in this department.
True, I've only got about 1/10 of my first page done (as you might guess, I have 50 more such pages for the U.S., and if I still have any brain cells left at that point, I'll move on to Canada...), but what I've done is FULL of "hotel" keywords (used in a reasonable manner, not "stuffed"), and still no luck!
I realize from the last time I asked that lots of people are in a similar pickle and it's pretty random, so while I would greatly appreciate your pointing out ANY possible problems on this particular page, I have a slightly different question as well.
It's a HUGE (*HUGE*!) amount of work (I'm looking up all the attractions and entering them one by one because I want to provide top quality information without any automated boo-boos), and I'm really not interested in spinning my wheels. (And this page is where I'm ironing out the details, before I move on.)
Maybe I'm getting those ads because the *REST* of my site (i.e., the BULK of my site) is geared toward those ads and it is somehow seeing "hotels" as irrelevant?
I could split this off into another domain (AmericaZooWhatever) which would be linked from the main AmericaZoo site and be JUST a zoo/animal-attraction locator with discount travel/hotel offers --
that should attract the right ads unless Google burps like it does on my spiny anteater page --
but that's what I've done with AmericaZooShops, and while it's attracting the right ads and (get this!) my click-through rate is running between 45 and 100% (yes, 100%)... I can count my traffic on fingers and toes if I use my whole family. It just isn't picking up like I'd hoped, but I haven't put a lot of effort into building it yet, so I have great expectations!
Do you think:
1. It would be a good idea to separate out this "locator" thing into another AmericaZoo domain to target the ads better and pull more targeted traffic, or
2. Do you think it's best to keep it right where it is to draw from the 5,000+ visitors per day that AmericaZoo is getting so far?
(I don't think I made a mistake separating AmericaZooShops because I want to keep AmericaZoo looking as noncommercial/educational as possible while still paying the bills... but maybe I did.)
Blessum Yew, Smart Ones!!
And if I haven't said it, I *really* appreciated all your great ideas last time I came for advice. I'm so busy with this I'm almost crazy, so I might have forgotten to say so.
Luv,
MaaMaw

PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
